E-commerce giant Coupang said on Wednesday that its second-quarter performance slipped into a loss due to a fine related to a large-scale data breach incident.

The company reported a net loss of 865 billion won (approximately $570 million) in the second quarter, compared to a net profit of 43.5 billion won in the same period last year.

Coupang's revenue mainly comes from its Korea operations. Following a data breach involving more than 37 million customers exposed in November 2025, the company faced strong public criticism.

In June this year, Korea’s Personal Information Protection Commission imposed a record fine of 624.7 billion won on Coupang due to the data breach and for collecting users' online activity information without consent.

The Product Commerce division—Coupang's core online shopping business—saw its second-quarter sales rise 1% year-on-year to $7.42 billion.

During the reporting period, revenue from the "Developed Products" division—which includes its Taiwan business and food delivery service Coupang Eats—grew 20% year-on-year to $1.43 billion.

Compared to the same period in 2025, the number of active Product Commerce users grew by 3%, reaching 24.7 million.
