NXP to Provide Microcontrollers for Volkswagen's Future Zonal Software-Defined Vehicle Architecture

05:45 AM EDT, 10/26/2026 (MT Newswires) -- NXP Semiconductors (NXPI) and Volkswagen entered into a strategic partnership for NXP to supply its S32K5 microcontrollers as a common building block for a future zonal software-defined vehicle architecture, NXP said Monday. The architecture is being developed by Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies, a joint venture between Rivian (RIVN) and Volkswagen, for use across both companies' vehicles, NXP said. Financial terms were not disclosed. The design aims to reduce the number of separate electronic control units required in vehicles, the company said. The first vehicle using the architecture is expected in 2027, NXP said.
