  1. Societe Generale’s Kit Juckes stated in a report that as the U.S. economy is expected to continue outperforming Canada, the upside potential for the Canadian dollar against the U.S. dollar is limited.
  2. The International Monetary Fund forecasts that Canada’s economy will grow by about 1.7% next year, compared to approximately 2.3% for the U.S.
  3. Juckes noted that for the Canadian dollar to rise significantly against the U.S. dollar, the growth gap would need to narrow considerably, which would also require a substantial tightening in interest rate differentials.
  4. Data from institutions show that the U.S. dollar fell 0.1% to 1.4040 Canadian dollars, after touching a four-week low of 1.4030 Canadian dollars on Tuesday.
  5. Going forward, pay attention to changes in U.S. and Canadian growth and interest rate differentials, Canadian economic data, and oil price trends for guidance on the Canadian dollar’s direction.
