This XRP Fervent Supporter States Why XRP Must Reach $1,000

A question is trending in the XRP community. Eira, a crypto enthusiast, recently shared what she often hears from a fellow XRP supporter.

He believes XRP must reach approximately $1,000 per token or higher to support large-scale global cross-border payments, including projects involving the Federal Reserve and Ripple.

The reasoning behind the claim centers on liquidity, not market capitalization. At $1 per token, the argument goes, the system cannot handle the volume of funds Ripple envisions. At $1,000 or above, it could. Eira says she hears the argument often but still does not fully grasp it.

The Liquidity Argument Explained

The point separates unit price from liquidity depth. A large transfer requires sufficient market activity on both ends of a transaction. The number of tokens involved is a secondary concern.

Why Price Still Matters to Some

Kemp pushed back on that position with a scaling argument. “Liquidity scales with price,” he noted. “A $1B transfer is a much bigger share of the float at a low price than at a large one.”

According to Kemp, moving $1 million requires one million tokens at $1 per XRP. At $1 million per XRP, a single token moves the same value. The concern is proportionality; a large transaction consumes a greater share of available supply when each unit carries less value.

Other Factors in the Settlement Equation

Commentator THIB offered a broader view of what drives settlement capability. “XRP doesn’t automatically need to hit $1,000 to support large settlements,” he wrote. “Liquidity, market depth, transaction size, and token velocity all matter.”

The point shifts the focus away from price as the sole variable. Token velocity and overall market depth contribute to settlement capacity alongside price.

Where the Debate Stands

The disagreement reflects a genuine tension in how XRP’s utility gets assessed. Those focused on unit price argue that a low per-token value limits scalability at institutional volumes. Those focused on liquidity architecture argue that market depth and order book activity matter far more than what each token costs.

Neither position dismisses the other entirely. The Crypto Compass acknowledges that liquidity must be deep. Kemp acknowledges that price affects how much of the available supply a single large transaction consumes. What the debate establishes is that price alone does not determine whether XRP can support global-scale settlement.
