(1) According to data from the Shanghai Shipping Exchange, Brent crude oil futures prices moved higher this week, closing at around $106 per barrel on Thursday, up approximately 2% compared to October 15. (2) In the global crude oil transport market, VLCC tanker freight rates saw a slight dip, and rates in the China import VLCC market moved lower from elevated levels. (3) The comprehensive index for China crude oil imports released on October 15 was around 18,923 points, down about 2% compared to October 8. (4) In the international dry bulk transport market, freight rates for the three main vessel types showed evident divergence; Capesize rates experienced a significant drop, and the Far East dry bulk rental index pulled back under pressure. (5) The Capesize two-ocean market cooled simultaneously, with insufficient cargoes and excess available capacity, coupled with continued declines in forward contracts, resulting in a sharp decrease in freight rates. (6) In the Panamax market, coal cargo release continued, grain transport remained stable, and tight spot capacity combined with elevated fuel prices led to steady or rising daily rents. (7) In the Supramax market, demand for northern steel exports and nickel ore transport remained good, coal shipping from Indonesia to Southeast Asia was active, and daily rents continued to rise. (8) The Far East dry bulk rental index released on October 15 was around 2,038 points, down about 12% compared to October 8. (9) In coastal bulk business, cold air led to lower temperatures in central and eastern regions, coastal power plants’ daily consumption declined, and after coal prices strengthened, downstream replenishing was cautious and market transactions were limited. (10) The comprehensive coastal bulk freight index released on October 16 was around 1,079 points, up about 1% compared to the previous period. (11) The container transport market continued to run steadily, supply and demand in transport were stable, and freight rates fluctuated slightly across routes. (12) The Shanghai export container composite freight index released on October 16 was around 3,680 points, up slightly by about 0.4% compared to the previous period; ongoing attention will be paid to crude oil price trends and seasonal demand changes.
