Dollar Falls as Post Inflation Data Rally Fades -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/10/15 06:380638 GMT - The dollar eases after reaching an 18-month high Wednesday driven by higher-than-expected U.S. inflation data. The dollar has given up much of its post-inflation rally as investors focus on softer underlying inflation details and rising growth concerns, Danske Bank's Silje Bue says in a note. "Core services inflation was lifted mostly by shelter and health care prices, neither of which reflects current inflation momentum very well." The sharp drop in equities and the narrowing between short- and long-term Treasury yields suggest markets are feeling anxious about the possible growth slowdown that a rapid tightening of monetary policy could cause, she says. The DXY dollar index falls 0.4% to 102.119 after rising to as high as 102.945 Wednesday. (renae.dyer@wsj.com)

AI concerns outweigh inflation benefits, US dollar sees biggest single-day drop in over a month
Despite the U.S. September PPI posting its largest monthly increase in four years and retail sales exceeding expectations—factors that should have bolstered the dollar—risk aversion triggered by a sell-off in AI-related assets led to a flight to U.S. Treasuries, pushing yields lower and weighing on the dollar. As a result, the dollar fell by 0.3% on Thursday. Analysts noted that the dollar is closely linked to AI capital expenditures, and if the market grows concerned about the peak of AI investments, the dollar would be the first to take a hit.
