Under the Radar: Liquidia Stock Soars After Settling Patent Fight -- WSJ

Shares of Liquidia surged nearly 30% this morning after the company settled six lawsuits with rival United Therapeutics, ending multiyear litigation that had threatened to restrict sales of Liquidia's main drug, called Yutrepia.
Morrisville, N.C.-based Liquidia said it will pay around $380 million to United Therapeutics through 2027. Yutrepia, an inhaled lung drug, will stay on the market for pulmonary arterial hypertension, a disease that narrows the arteries in the lungs.
In September, a judge found Liquidia infringed a United Therapeutics patent covering the use of the active ingredient in Yutrepia to treat patients with a different lung disease. Liquidia shares fell 57% that day. As part of its settlement, Liquidia agreed not to appeal and said it will stop promoting Yutrepia for that condition.

The yen appreciated 0.3% against the US dollar to 157.68, and the Swiss franc rose 0.2%. Safe-haven buying emerged as oil prices surged due to an attack in Saudi Arabia. The future direction will depend on which theme dominates: inflationary pressures or a cooling in AI trading.
