Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Mixed Late Afternoon

03:50 PM EDT, 10/12/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were mixed late Monday afternoon with the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) increasing 1% and the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) shedding 0.5%. In corporate news, Albertsons (ACI) wants Kroger (KR) to pay it at least $8 billion after the companies' proposed merger failed two years ago, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing an unsealed filing in Delaware Chancery Court. Albertsons shares rose 2.1%, and Kroger increased 1.2%. Bumble (BMBL) shares surged 53% after The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter, that Ithaca Holdings was in advanced talks to take the dating app private in a deal valuing it at about $1 billion. Starbucks (SBUX) told MT Newswires it is not buying Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG), refuting reports from last week. Starbucks shares rose 1.5%, and Chipotle fell 4%. Delta Air Lines (DAL) said Monday it is delaying the planned launch of nonstop flights between Atlanta and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, until March 2027 due to safety and security concerns. Delta shares were down 2.6%.
