The Nasdaq Composite rose Friday, securing its fourth straight weekly gain, while crude prices were little changed. The index climbed 0.6% to 27,366.17. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 0.8% to 51,654.95, while the S&P 500 added 0.6% to 7,811.54. The S&P 500 and the Dow logged weekly increases of 1.2% and 0.9%, respectively. "Equity markets bounced back this week with little in the way of major market-moving data, and as Treasury yields paused their relentless run higher," BMO Senior Economist Robert Kavcic wrote in a note. US consumer sentiment fell to a five-month low in October as the one- and five-year inflation expectations reached their highest levels since May, preliminary results of a University of Michigan survey showed Friday.
