Sector Update: Energy Stocks Decline Pre-Bell Friday
MT newswire2026/10/09 13:3109:31 AM EDT, 10/09/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks were declining pre-bell Friday, with the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) 0.4% lower. The United States Oil Fund (USO) was down past 0.4% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was 0.5% higher. Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil was 0.6% lower at $90.92 per barrel at the New York Mercantile Exchange. Global benchmark North Sea Brent crude oil fell 1%% to $103.22 per barrel, and natural gas futures were down 0.6% at $3.15 per 1 million British Thermal Units. Transocean (RIG) said Norge secured a $62 million two-well contract with Shell's (SHEL) Norwegian unit, A/S Norske Shell. Transocean stock was 0.7% higher premarket. ExxonMobil (XOM) blocked a proposal by partners in Kazakhstan's Kashagan oil field to settle a disputed $5.2 billion environmental fine, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Shares of ExxonMobil were down 0.6% pre-bell. BP (BP) said it has shut in production and evacuated all personnel from its Na Kika and Thunder Horse platforms in the Gulf of Mexico as it monitors Hurricane Isaias. BP stock was 0.3% lower premarket.
