EBA strengthens risk review of European banks’ sovereign bonds: risk exposure remains controllable

(2) According to the official, as the yields on government bonds in some core European countries have soared to multi-year highs, the government debt investment portfolios held by banks require enhanced monitoring. (3) Currently, the relevant risk exposures still appear to be "within controllable ranges." (4) The net interest income generated from bonds has largely offset the impact of declining bond prices on the economic value of banks' equity. (5) He said, "So far, we have not seen banks suffer significant losses as a result of the current situation, and we are confident that regulators are taking the necessary responsive measures."
