Apple to launch dual products in October: First touch-screen MacBook and new iPad mini to debut simultaneously

Apple is planning to hold its second product launch event of the month around October 27, where it will introduce its first-ever touchscreen MacBook Pro (featuring an OLED display and the “Dynamic Island” interface), a new iPad mini (also upgraded with OLED and a repositioned camera), as well as a 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac powered by the M6 chip. These are the first major products overseen by the new CEO, John Ternus.

Apple is preparing for its second product launch event in late October, where it will unveil its first-ever touchscreen MacBook, as well as a brand-new iPad mini equipped with an OLED display.

According to Bloomberg, this event is scheduled to take place around October 27 and will follow the same format as the October 13 smart home event—with an online video presentation and offline hands-on demonstrations for the media.

This will be the first major product launch led by the new CEO John Ternus since he took over at Apple last month.

Touchscreen MacBook: Arriving After Three Years of Waiting

The new MacBook Pro models, codenamed K114 and K116, will mark the first time Apple introduces touchscreens to the Mac lineup.

Bloomberg first reported on this project as early as 2023.

In terms of hardware, the new devices will be lighter than current models, feature upgraded OLED screens, and introduce the "Dynamic Island" interactive interface familiar to iPhone users.

This launch event is geared toward creative professionals in fields such as video production, image editing, and music creation. The last time Apple held a product showcase of similar scale in Los Angeles was in 2024.

In addition to the touchscreen MacBook Pro, the 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac will also be upgraded with the M6 chip at the same event, with the codenames J804 and J833 respectively.

Reports indicate that these two models will retain the same exterior design as the current versions.

New iPad mini: OLED Display, Landscape Camera, All-New Audio

The new iPad mini, codenamed J510, will also feature an OLED screen upgrade.

Additionally, the video call camera will be repositioned to the landscape side, and the speaker system has been completely redesigned.

October 13 Preview: Smart Home Ecosystem Takes the Lead

Before the October 27 event, Apple will hold a dedicated smart home showcase on October 13.

At that time, Apple will unveil its first smart home hub with a display, a new HomePod mini, and an updated Apple TV, all centered around the Siri AI assistant.

Apple will also introduce a smart home ecosystem that incorporates accessories from LG Electronics and Schneider Electric.

This move aims to reverse Apple's recent setbacks in the smart home market and more effectively challenge Amazon and Google. Notably, Amazon has just released a brand-new tablet lineup based on the Alexa+ platform this week.

The Ternus Era: Rapid Product Line Expansion

John Ternus officially took over as Apple's CEO last month, and this series of launches is viewed by observers as the start of a record-breaking product rollout schedule under his leadership.

Apple also plans to introduce more new Mac and iPad products in the first half of next year.

BUZZ - "Broker Views": Analysts skeptical about reports of Starbucks acquiring Chipotle

On October 9, the Financial Times reported Thursday that Starbucks SBUX.O had explored the potential acquisition of Chipotle CMG.N, a move that would see CEO Brian Niccol return to the Mexican burrito chain he once led. Starbucks declined to comment, stating the company would remain “fully focused” on its own business turnaround. **Limited Strategic Rationale** BTIG expressed “high skepticism,” noting that from a supply chain and operational perspective, the deal “does not make sense” and would cause significant dilution for Starbucks shareholders while disrupting management at both brands. BTIG analyst Peter Saleh stated: “Over the years, we've heard many stories about multi-brand acquisitions... but few actually happen, and even fewer succeed.” William Blair analyst Sharon Zackfia pointed out that, given the differences in supply chains, the deal offers “no clear revenue synergies and very limited benefits in procurement.” She also noted that as of June, Starbucks’ $9.4 billion net debt would make financing an acquisition “difficult to justify” and could raise the combined company's leverage ratio to about 6x, which is high in the publicly listed restaurant sector. D.A. Davidson indicated that given the distinct differences between the brands and limited apparent synergies, the likelihood of the deal succeeding is 20% or less. EMarketer analyst Suzy Davidkhanian commented that Niccol's familiarity with Chipotle could reduce execution risks, but Starbucks investors might view this transaction as a “costly distraction” hindering the company’s turnaround.
