Foreign media reported that Broadcom (AVGO, US) is arranging over $50 billions in financing for its joint development of custom AI chips with OpenAI, marking the latest example in the trend of large-scale AI infrastructure financing deals.

Zhitong Finance APP has learned that, according to foreign media reports, Broadcom (AVGO, US) is arranging financing of over $50 billion for its custom artificial intelligence chip co-developed with OpenAI, marking the latest example of the surge in AI infrastructure financing deals.

The report, citing sources familiar with the matter, states that lenders such as Apollo Global Management and Blackstone Group are in talks to participate in the deal. Meanwhile, Oracle is in discussions with Apollo and Goldman Sachs to raise funds for chip procurement.

Faced with soaring data center construction costs, these firms are seeking such financing deals. The booming demand for AI infrastructure to support the mass adoption of software and services is prompting tech giants to turn to new financing methods.

In June, Broadcom stated that it had set up a financing platform with Apollo and Blackstone as anchor investors, aiming by 2028 to provide financing for over 20 GW of computing power for AI developers, including Anthropic and OpenAI. The initial scale of this platform is $35 billion, led by Apollo together with Blackstone.

In August, it was reported that Broadcom had discussed with a group of lenders to raise over $60 billion in debt for an AI chip financing deal, from which Anthropic and other companies would benefit.

From a broader perspective, the scale of AI infrastructure financing has entered the trillion-dollar era. According to a report released by BofA Securities in September, since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, the cumulative issuance of debt by AI-related companies, securitization products, and project financing has reached $1.374 trillion, with $635.1 billion issued since 2026 alone.

Updated version 1 - Reports indicate Firmus is considering adjusting its $5 billions IPO plan, while Australia's Maas Group shares plunged 30%.

Reuters, October 8 – On Thursday, Maas Group's (MGH.AX) shares plummeted by as much as 30% following reports that Nvidia (NVDA.O)-backed AI company Firmus is considering adjusting the terms of its much-anticipated $5 billion IPO. The stock fell to AUD 4.47, marking its largest intraday drop and the lowest point since May 6, wiping about AUD 694 million ($483.37 million) off the construction services company’s market capitalization. Key details: - Maas holds a 3.2% stake in the data center operator and had previously pledged an additional AUD 300 million at a per-share price of AUD 230 for both common and preferred stock earlier in August (link). - In an exchange filing, Maas stated that speculation about whether the IPO would proceed as scheduled has put market sentiment under pressure and added that it is not aware of any undisclosed information to explain the trading situation. - Firmus lists OpenAI as an anchor customer and is preparing what would be the second-largest IPO in Australian history (link). Reports earlier this week suggested the company might lower its offering price from AUD 11 per share. - If this listing proceeds smoothly, it would be Australia’s largest IPO in nearly 30 years, second only to the approximately $10 billion IPO by leading telecom operator Telstra (TLS.AX) in 1997. - Prior to Thursday’s sharp drop, Maas Group’s shares had already risen about 44% over the past 12 months, with investors valuing its link to AI-driven data center construction. - Firmus has not yet responded to Reuters’ request for comment.
