French government bond selling pressure eases, French bond yields fall by 9.8 basis points
智通财经2026/10/06 07:51Eurozone government bond yields and US Treasury yields have fallen, as some investors believe that yields, which are close to multi-decade highs, are now attractive enough to re-enter the bond market. European investors are focusing on French government bonds, as their yields have surged recently due to budget disputes and the upcoming presidential election next year. Christoph Rieger, an analyst at Commerzbank, stated in a report: "The selling pressure on French government bonds appears to be easing, and the decoupling from US Treasury movements is encouraging." However, he noted that while the cancellation of this week's French bond auction has helped relieve some pressure, caution is still warranted. Germany's 10-year government bond yield fell by 6.1 basis points during the day to 3.435%; France's 10-year government bond yield fell by 9.8 basis points to 4.781%; and the US 10-year Treasury yield dropped by 2.3 basis points to 5.288%.

British banking sector meets with Chancellor to oppose further tax increases
UK Chancellor of the Exchequer John Healey has informed the country’s largest banks that the government is facing a “difficult fiscal situation”, but did not provide clear guidance on whether the upcoming budget, set to be released later this month, will increase the tax burden on banks. According to informed sources, executives from several major UK banks used a meeting with Healey on Tuesday morning to once again present their arguments against further tax increases on the banking industry. This is likely to be their final meeting with Healey before the budget announcement. Senior executives from Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds Banking Group, NatWest Group, Nationwide, and Santander were among those in attendance. Sources indicated that these bank executives believe increasing the tax burden on the sector would damage the government’s policy goal of boosting economic growth, while further widening the gap between London and competing financial centers such as New York.
