Vanadium Redox Flow Energy Storage: Opportunities and Challenges of the New Cycle

According to our calculations, under long-term cost assumptions, the 6-hour scenario LCOS for vanadium redox flow batteries is 0.213 RMB/kWh, and for lithium batteries is 0.211 RMB/kWh; for the 8-hour scenario, it is 0.190 and 0.186 RMB/kWh respectively—the premium narrows from the current 36% to within 2%, with the 6-hour point being the crossover on this curve.

The real constraint on the industry’s pace is not the battery, but vanadium: even with only a 5% penetration rate in 2035, annual V₂O₅ demand will be 532 thousand tons, 4.8 times the current global production of 110 thousand tons, and China’s low-cost vanadium supply relies heavily on vanadium slag, a steel industry byproduct, with further increases limited by declining rebar production. Vanadium redox flow is not just a "wait for the wind" technology pathway; it is a ternary equation requiring the simultaneous unlocking of "long-duration demand, cost reduction, and resource expansion." The anticipated development rhythm for the industry is: Northwest leads—cost reduction and scale-up—nationwide proliferation, with realization more likely in the medium to long term rather than the short term.

BUZZ - Barclays upgrades Estée Lauder rating to "Overweight", stock price rises

October 5th - The stock price of cosmetics manufacturer Estée Lauder (EL.N) rose 2.2% in pre-market trading to $93.98. Barclays upgraded the stock rating from "Neutral" to "Overweight" and raised the target price from $97 to $108. The bank stated that the company’s expected sales growth and profitability in the coming years make it one of the most attractive companies in the Global Consumer Staples Index. It was noted that, since announcing its transformation plan, the company (link) has achieved more balanced revenue growth over the past seven quarters, contrary to previous market expectations that reshaping its operating model would require significant time and investment. Growth has been recorded in all regions, and strong North America growth is expected to continue this quarter; structural changes to the operating model are expected to support continued reinvestment and gradually drive the EBIT margin up to double-digit percentage highs. The average rating given by 44 brokerages is "Buy," with a median target price of $129—data compiled by London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG). As of the last trading day’s close, the stock had declined about 12% year-to-date.
