Market Chatter: Disney Plans TV Restructuring With Hundreds of Layoffs

MT newswireMT newswire2026/10/01 20:20
04:20 PM EDT, 10/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Walt Disney Company (DIS) is planning a restructuring of its television operations that could result in hundreds of layoffs and the consolidation of divisions, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter. The plan, which may not be finalized until year-end, is aimed at organizing the business around streaming rather than legacy linear-TV brands, the report said. Disney has already announced layoffs across marketing, Pixar, ABC News and ESPN. Dana Walden, Disney's president and chief creative officer, said the company is centralizing separately run divisions into a single television business, the WSJ reported. Disney did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally. She partially attributed inflationary pressures to higher oil prices caused by the Iran conflict, and expects the energy shock to subside as hostilities ease. Yellen refuted the notion of an AI bubble, arguing that investments by major tech companies are grounded in solid business logic.
