US Dollar Rises Early Tuesday Ahead of Packed Data, Fed Speaker Schedule

07:39 AM EDT, 09/29/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US dollar rose against its major trading partners early Tuesday, except for a decline versus the yen, ahead of full day of data releases and appearances by Federal Reserve officials, starting with weekly Redbook same-store sales at 8:55 am ET and home price data for July at 9:00 am ET. Consumer confidence data for September and job openings data for August are due at 10:00 am ET and the Dallas Fed's nonmanufacturing reading for September is scheduled for 10:30 am ET. Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman is expected to speak at 11:00 am ET, followed by Fed Governor Michael Barr at 12:40 pm ET, New York Fed President John Williams at 2:00 pm ET and Fed Governor Christopher Waller at 3:00 pm ET. A quick summary of foreign exchange activity heading into Tuesday: EUR/USD fell to 1.1345 from 1.1371 at the Monday US close and 1.1375 at the same time Monday morning. Eurozone consumer confidence held steady in September but still indicated significant pessimism, according to data released earlier Tuesday. European Central Bank policy board member Philip Lane is due to speak at 2:00 pm ET. The next European Central Bank meeting is scheduled for Oct. 29. GBP/USD fell to 1.3239 from 1.3252 at the Monday US close and 1.3266 at the same time Monday morning. UK consumer credit use increased in August, with mortgage lending higher, according to data released earlier Monday. Bank of England policy board member Catherine Mann is due to speak at 11:00 am ET. The next Bank of England meeting is scheduled for Nov. 5. USD/JPY fell to 157.2571 from 157.4002 at the Monday US close but was above a level of 156.8832 at the same time Monday morning. The Japanese leading index rose in July after holding steady in the previous month. The next Bank of Japan meeting is scheduled for Oct. 30. USD/CAD rose to 1.4189 from 1.4176 at the Monday US close and 1.4171 at the same time Monday morning. Canadian GDP data for July and preliminary GDP data for August are due to be released at 8:30 am ET, followed by an appearance by Bank of Canada Deputy Governor Toni Gravelle at 1:20 pm ET. The next Bank of Canada meeting is scheduled for Oct. 28.
