Yomiuri: Nissan to Bring New Hybrid Vehicles to U.S. Market

Nissan Motor Co. plans to expand the lineup of hybrid vehicles that it sells in its key U.S. market, the company said Monday at a briefing on its operations in the Americas.
The Japanese automaker had not previously managed to launch any hybrid vehicles of its own in the United States, which led to it falling behind Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. in sales there. The company determined that the introduction of a new hybrid system with improved fuel efficiency would make its vehicles viable even in the United States, where driving distances are often long.
Nissan will launch a new hybrid model of its Rogue sport utility vehicle (SUV) -- known as the X-Trail in Japan -- in the United States in November. The company also plans to introduce a hybrid version of its Kicks compact SUV in two years or so, and it is considering creating hybrid versions of some of its large SUVs and pickup trucks.
In response to the U.S. government's high tariff policies, Nissan has also set a goal of raising its local production ratio, which stood at 65% in July this year, to 80% by 2030.
