Samsung increases investment in AI infrastructure! Invests 1 billion USD in Helix Digital, owned by KKR (KKR.US)
Several subsidiaries of Samsung Group have agreed to invest a total of $1 billion in Helix Digital, a U.S. company backed by private equity giant KKR, further expanding the Korean conglomerate's presence in the rapidly growing artificial intelligence infrastructure market.
According to information from the Zhicheng Financial APP, several subsidiaries under the Samsung Group, including Samsung Electronics, have agreed to invest a total of 1 billion US dollars in the US company Helix Digital Infrastructure, which is backed by private equity giant KKR (KKR.US), further increasing the South Korean conglomerate’s presence in the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence infrastructure market.
According to a statement released by Samsung on Tuesday, Samsung Electronics, Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance, and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance will participate in this investment. This move will give South Korea’s largest industrial group stakes in a company operating across multiple sectors where Samsung already has a significant presence, including semiconductors, construction, data centers, cloud computing, and finance.
Helix was jointly established in June by KKR, Kuwait Investment Authority, NVIDIA (NVDA.US), and US power producer Vistra (VST.US), and has already secured more than 10 billion US dollars in long-term capital commitments. The company is led by former Amazon Web Services CEO Adam Selipsky. NVIDIA is its strategic partner, while Vistra is Helix’s preferred energy partner. Helix aims not just to operate as another data center developer, but to integrate all the infrastructure required to bring large-scale computing facilities into operation quickly.
Helix stated that its business focuses on investing in, delivering, and managing infrastructure supporting artificial intelligence (AI), covering hyperscale data centers, power generation and transmission facilities, as well as fiber and connectivity assets. Helix plans to leverage NVIDIA’s full-stack technology combined with Samsung’s technical and energy storage capabilities to accelerate the development and delivery of AI infrastructure.
