Cibus, Crystal Crop Protection Partner on Gene-Edited Mustard Traits in India

05:54 PM EDT, 09/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Cibus (CBUS) and Crystal Crop Protection Limited said Monday they have agreed to develop gene-edited traits in Brassica juncea, or mustard, for the Indian market. Crystal Crop will collaborate with Cibus to develop, evaluate, and commercialize gene-edited traits under an exclusive license in India, the companies said. Crystal Crop will contribute its mustard production program and a distribution network of more than 14,823 independent partners across 23 states and four union territories, as of March 31, according to the statement. Cibus said its gene-editing platform makes precise changes to a plant's own genes without adding foreign DNA, which India's environment ministry determined in 2022 falls outside its rules for genetically modified organisms.
