IonQ Has Semiconductor-Enabled Path to Scale Qubits, BofA Says

MT newswireMT newswire2026/09/28 15:01
11:01 AM EDT, 09/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- IonQ (IONQ) has a semiconductor-enabled path to scale qubit count, and broad customer engagement and exposure across quantum computing, communications and sensing, BofA Securities said in a Monday note. Commercial adoption of quantum computers is at an early stage because physical qubits remain error-prone, but better fidelity and error correction can support more useful machines by 2030, analysts said. BofA said that the company's electronic qubit control technology and SkyWater's semiconductor manufacturing capabilities provide a semiconductor-based path to scale. The next-generation Superion 256 system, targeted for launch in the second quarter of 2027, could support substantial scaling of logical qubits, analysts said. "IonQ must translate component and prototype progress into reliable, customer-accepted systems while integrating a broad M&A portfolio and managing foundry complexity," according to the note. BofA initiated coverage with a buy rating and a $60 price target. Shares of IonQ were up 2.2% in Monday trading. Price: 46.49, Change: +1.01, Percent Change: +2.22
