10:26 AM EDT, 09/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The S&P/TSX Composite Index was lower in mid-morning trade on Monday, shedding 300 points as US bond yields stayed elevated. Shares in the information technology and base metals sectors were the weakest performers. The technology sector was last seen down 1.9%, followed by base metals, which was 1.6% lower. Comex gold futures with a December expiry fell 3% to $4,184.90. Silver and copper futures were 4.3% and 2%, lower, respectively. The energy sector, up 1%, was the top performer, boosted by higher oil prices after the US rejected Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. In stocks, Slate Grocery REIT (SGR-UN.TO) units jumped 63% to CA$17.55 after it announced its acquisition by Brixmor Property Group and Everview Partners for $13 cash per unit. The deal values the REIT at $2.3 billion.
