US stocks opened lower; storage and optical communication sectors fell broadly, while Nvidia rose nearly 2% against the trend, approaching a new high.

Glonghui, September 28th | The three major US stock indices opened lower collectively: the S&P 500 Index fell 0.44%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.71%, and the Nasdaq declined 0.47%. The storage sector saw broad declines at the opening: Micron dropped 0.58%, SanDisk fell 1.99%, SK Hynix decreased 2.90%, Western Digital lost 1.45%, and Seagate Technology declined 1.02%. Optical communication stocks weakened: Lumentum fell 0.71%, Corning dropped 1.75%, Coherent declined 2.27%, Applied Optoelectronics fell 2.19%, Ciena dropped 1.36%, while Broadcom rose 0.26% and Marvell Technology declined 1.58%. Nvidia rose nearly 2%, approaching a record high, as the company announced an increase of $150 billion in share repurchase authorization. SpaceX opened slightly higher, with Starship igniting for the first time into orbit and successfully entering Earth’s orbit. Meta fell over 0.9%. OpenAI is reportedly ramping up preparations to launch a resident AI assistant called "o" soon.
