Market Chatter: US Diesel Ban Threat Puts Allies in Brazil, UK at Risk

07:27 PM EDT, 09/23/2026 (MT Newswires) -- A proposed US diesel export ban would leave countries including Brazil and the UK racing to secure the fuel, pressuring near-record prices higher as the Iran war chokes global supply, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing data from Kpler and Vortexa Ltd. Brazil is the top buyer of US-made diesel and similar fuels so far in September, tracking with the start of its planting season, according to the data cited in the report. Chile, Mexico, the UK and the Netherlands also rank among the top five recipients this month. US diesel exports surged to a record near 2 million barrels a day this summer, the report said. Trump has said he's encouraged advisers to support an export ban, and Politico reported Wednesday that the administration is working on plans for a 90-day halt, though no curb has been announced. The Politico report is "not true," a Whitehouse spokesperson told MT Newswires in an emailed response. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
