India's Food Regulator Initiates Penal Action Against Amazon Seller Services

01:31 PM EDT, 09/23/2026 (MT Newswires) -- India's Food Safety and Standards Authority said Wednesday it initiated penal action against Amazon.com's (AMZN) Amazon Seller Services over alleged food safety and regulatory non-compliances. The regulator cited misleading or non-compliant claims on Happilo Premium Date Bites and the sale and display of Datura fruits and seeds through Amazon's e-commerce platform. FSSAI also initiated action against Flipkart, Swiggy Instamart, Zepto and BigBasket over similar food safety and regulatory violations, according to the regulator's social media post.
