Rivian Automotive Recalls Nearly 99,000 Vehicles Over Rearview Camera Issue

04:36 AM EDT, 09/23/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Rivian Automotive (RIVN) is recalling 98,828 vehicles in the US because a notification may block part of the rearview camera image when the vehicle is in reverse, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, said Wednesday. The issue could reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle and increase the risk of a crash, the regulator said. The recall covers certain 2022-2027 R1S, 2022-2026 R1T, and 2027 R2 vehicles, the NHTSA said, adding that Rivian has released a free over-the-air software update to fix the issue. The NHTSA said owner notification letters are expected to be sent out on Nov. 9, 2026.
