Maple Leaf Foods to Consolidate US Plant Protein Production in Indianapolis; Wind Down Two Plants

04:31 PM EDT, 09/22/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Maple Leaf Foods (MFI.TO) said Tuesday it will consolidate its US plant protein production at its Indianapolis, Indiana, facility and wind down production at plants in Seattle, Washington, and Turners Falls, Massachusetts. The transition is expected to take place in phases over about 12 to 18 months, with completion targeted for the fourth quarter of 2027. The company said the move is part of its Fuel for Growth initiative and follows a review of its plant protein manufacturing footprint. Consolidating production in Indianapolis is expected to improve capacity utilization, reduce operational complexity and create a Centre of Excellence to support the company's plant protein brands. Shares of the company closed up CA$0.13 to CA$26.24 on Toronto Stock exchange on Tuesday.
