Sector Update: Energy

03:35 PM EDT, 09/21/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks fell late Monday afternoon with the NYSE Energy Sector Index declining 1.7% and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) dropping 1.8%. The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index shed 0.6%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index lost 0.5%. West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell 4.4% to $95.89 a barrel, and global benchmark Brent crude declined 3.2% to $100.51 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures dropped 2.8% to $2.83 per 1 million BTU. In corporate news, ExxonMobil (XOM) refining upside may offset lost earnings from its Middle East exposure, and the company might continue making acquisitions, RBC Capital Markets said. Exxon shares fell 2.9%.
