US Dollar Rises Early Monday Ahead of Chicago National Index

07:37 AM EDT, 09/21/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US dollar rose against its major trading partners early Monday ahead of the Chicago Federal Reserve's national activity index for August at 8:30 am ET. Tuesday's highlights include the Philadelphia Fed's nonmanufacturing index for September, weekly Redbook same-store sales data, and the Richmond Fed's business conditions readings for September. Weekly mortgage applications, oil stocks data, and the S&P Global flash readings of manufacturing and services for September are due to be released on Wednesday. Weekly jobless claims and natural gas stocks data, current account data for Q2, and new home sales for August will be the main readings on Thursday. Friday's highlights will include durable goods orders for August and the final University of Michigan consumer sentiment reading for September. A quick summary of foreign exchange activity heading into Monday: EUR/USD fell to 1.1480 from 1.1488 at the Friday US close but was above a level of 1.1465 at the same time Friday morning. There are no Eurozone data on Monday's schedule, but European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde is due to speak at 11:00 am ET. The next European Central Bank meeting is scheduled for Oct. 29. GBP/USD fell to 1.3387 from 1.3396 at the Friday US close but was above a level of 1.3353 at the same time Friday morning. There are no UK data on Monday's schedule. The next Bank of England meeting is scheduled for Nov. 5. USD/JPY rose to 157.2521 from 156.7551 at the Friday US close but was below a level of 157.7642 at the same time Friday morning. There were no Japanese data released overnight. The next Bank of Japan meeting is scheduled for Oct. 30. USD/CAD rose to 1.4009 from 1.3989 at the Friday US close but was below a level of 1.4014 at the same time Friday morning. There are no Canadian data on Monday's schedule. The next Bank of Canada meeting is scheduled for Oct. 28.
