Qatar's Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, stated that some of Qatar's liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities may resume normal operations within weeks after the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, but large-scale damage from the Iranian attacks is expected to limit output for years to come. Before the outbreak of war, Qatar, along with the United States and Australia, was one of the top three LNG exporters in the world. Earlier this year, the Strait of Hormuz was nearly closed, and in addition, an Iranian attack on Ras Laffan, the world's largest LNG export hub, led Qatar to suspend LNG production. The attack resulted in about 17% of this facility's capacity being shut down. On Sunday, Al-Kaabi said that the damaged gas-to-liquids facility is expected to be repaired by the first quarter of 2027, while repairs on the two damaged LNG production lines could take up to three years.
