According to Jinzi Finance APP, the quarterly rebalancing of the Nasdaq 100 Index will take effect before the U.S. market opens on September 21 (Monday). The key change is that SpaceX (SPCX.US) will see its index weight significantly increased from approximately 1.28% to 2.82%.
This rocket, satellite, and AI company owned by Elon Musk has a market capitalization of over $2 trillion. When the company was included in the Nasdaq 100 Index in July, its weight was relatively small because most of its shares were locked up, limiting the number of shares available for public trading.
With the expiration of the lock-up period, the company’s free-floating shares and its weight in the Nasdaq 100 Index are expected to increase, prompting index funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) tracking the benchmark to buy more of the company's stock. Reportedly, there are currently more than 200 investment products worldwide tracking the Nasdaq 100 Index, managing more than $800 billion in assets.
On the same day, the quarterly rebalancing by S&P Dow Jones Indices will also take effect. The S&P 100 Index will add Palo Alto Networks, Arista Networks, SanDisk, and Dell, while the S&P 500 Index will add Everpure, Bloom Energy, and Illumina. This round of adjustments is a routine portfolio reshuffle; on the effective date, passive fund rebalancing may cause volume and price fluctuations in related tech stocks, with Arista and Palo Alto expected to receive greater passive allocations.
