Investment appeal stands out after pullback! Canadian pipeline giant Enbridge (ENB.US) upgraded by BMO Capital to "Outperform"
BMO has upgraded Enbridge's rating to "Outperform", believing that its recent pullback and $41 billion project backlog offer a good investment opportunity.
According to Jinse Finance APP, BMO Capital has upgraded the rating of pipeline operator Enbridge (ENB.US) from "Market Perform" to "Outperform" and set a target price of 79.50 Canadian dollars. The analyst noted that the recent pullback in the stock, along with improved growth visibility, makes it an attractive investment in a volatile macroeconomic environment.
BMO analyst Ben Pham stated that Enbridge's share price has underperformed compared to Canadian midstream and pipeline peers so far this year, likely due to rising bond yields, the company's lack of visibility around its approximately 5% growth guidance by the end of the decade, and a recent equity financing; meanwhile, peers are perceived to have higher growth rates.
The analyst noted that Enbridge operates more like a diversified utility company, prioritizing quality, long-duration contracted assets over higher-beta unconventional growth. He believes the company’s scale, limited commodity exposure, and diversified assets are undervalued.
Pham stated, "Few companies have a visible, quality organic growth plan like Enbridge — with $41 billion in secured backlog and an additional $20 billion of new projects likely to be approved in 2026–2027." Additionally, opportunistic acquisitions such as Salt Creek Midstream and Tallgrass crude oil transportation business carry embedded future upside potential.
The analyst stated that Enbridge’s approximately $3 billion equity financing and its innovative $2.7 billion joint venture with KKR for the Westcoast B.C. pipeline have strengthened the balance sheet, providing additional financial flexibility for potential new growth opportunities.
