Clarity Act Fails Amid Democratic Pushback on Trump Crypto Ties

MT newswireMT newswire2026/09/15 23:20
07:20 PM EDT, 09/15/2026 (MT Newswires) -- A crypto regulation bill backed by the digital currency industry failed to advance in the US Senate Tuesday, as Democrats pushed for stronger limits on President Trump's ability to profit from the industry, multiple outlets reported. The so-called Clarity Act fell largely along party lines, 49-50, well short of the 60 votes needed to advance, according to the reports. Democrats objected to the bill's lack of controls on Trump, who reported earning more than $1 billion from his crypto businesses last year, and to stablecoin yield provisions opposed by banks. Pro-crypto groups plan to push the Senate to reconsider the bill, the reports said, while the industry looks to securities and derivatives regulators for rulemaking clarity in the meantime.
