Sector Update: Healthcare Stocks Gain Late Afternoon

03:59 PM EDT, 09/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Healthcare stocks advanced late Monday afternoon, with the NYSE Healthcare Index up 1.5% and the State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV) adding 1.4%. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) rose 0.7%. In corporate news, Capricor Therapeutics' (CAPR) shares gained 5.1% after B. Riley upgraded the biotechnology company's stock to buy from neutral, and raised its price target to $21 from $5. Summit Therapeutics (SMMT) shares rose 5.2% in Monday trading, a day after the company said its partner Akeso reported updated data, including overall survival, from the phase 3 HARMONi-2 trial of investigational bispecific antibody ivonescimab, showing a 27% reduction in the risk of death compared with pembrolizumab. Addus HomeCare (ADUS) agreed to acquire AccentCare's personal care operations outside of New York in a deal worth roughly $275 million, adding to a series of recent acquisitions. Addus HomeCare shares were up 0.3%. Abbott Laboratories (ABT) agreed to pay about $385 million to resolve allegations that infant formula produced at the company's Sturgis, Michigan, facility failed to meet statutory, regulatory, and contractual requirements, the US Department of Justice said. Abbott shares were up 1.1%.
