Sector Update: Healthcare Stocks Rise in Afternoon Trading

01:49 PM EDT, 09/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Healthcare stocks advanced Monday afternoon, with the NYSE Healthcare Index up 1.6% and the State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV) adding 1.5%. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) rose 1%. In corporate news, Abbott Laboratories (ABT) agreed to pay about $385 million to resolve allegations that infant formula produced at the company's Sturgis, Michigan, facility failed to meet statutory, regulatory, and contractual requirements, the US Department of Justice said. Abbott shares were up 1%. GSK (GSK) licensor Hansoh Pharmaceutical reported that a phase 3 trial evaluating risvutatug rezetecan, or Ris-Rez, against commonly used topotecan in patients with relapsed small-cell lung cancer met its primary endpoint. GSK shares climbed 4.2%. Definium Therapeutics (DFTX) shares gained 2.3% after the company said Monday its second phase 3 trial of DT120 orally disintegrating tablet in people with generalized anxiety disorder met its primary and key secondary endpoints. Sanofi (SNY) will acquire a 26.4% stake in Cheplapharm as part of a partnership agreement that would transfer 20 established medicines and three manufacturing sites to the German pharmaceutical company, the companies said Monday. Sanofi shares added 1.6%.
