  1. The Kuala Lumpur rubber market closed lower on Monday, following the weakening of regional rubber futures, while Japanese rubber futures extended their losing streak for the fourth consecutive trading day.
  2. Some traders noted that tire manufacturing in the region is slowing natural rubber procurement, further dampening market sentiment.
  3. Relevant data show that the operating rate of all-steel tire production has declined, with both month-on-month and year-on-year decreases.
  4. The rise in raw material costs has prompted some companies to maintain production controls, leading to reduced natural rubber purchases.
  5. Rising expectations of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike and concerns over the US economic outlook are also weighing on market confidence. After US consumer prices accelerated in August, market bets on a 25-basis-point hike in September increased, which could support the US dollar and drag down commodity prices.
  6. US consumer confidence worsened in September while inflation expectations rose, deepening concerns over consumer spending and economic activity.
  7. However, sharp rises in crude oil prices, along with the increased possibility of supply disruptions in major producing countries in Southeast Asia due to heavy rainfall and a strengthening El Niño expectation, partially cushioned the decline.
  8. As of publication, Brent crude was up 3.15% to $107.90 per barrel; SMR 20 rubber fell 22 sen to 976.5 sen per kilogram, and bulk latex dropped 2 sen to 710.5 sen per kilogram.
