Ripple has conducted a burn of 15 million Ripple USD (RLUSD) tokens, with the transaction confirmed on the Ethereum blockchain on Thursday. The value of the burned tokens is estimated at $15 million, as the total was moved from the RLUSD Treasury to the Ethereum null address.
Ripple burns 15 million RLUSD, market cap rises to $2.42 billion
Recent RLUSD minting and burning activity intensifies
Blockchain data has highlighted a series of significant minting and redemption transactions involving RLUSD in the past week. On September 8, observers recorded a burn of 10 million RLUSD, shortly followed by a mint of approximately 14.39 million RLUSD.
One day earlier, on September 7, 18 million RLUSD was minted on Ethereum. Additional activity included the minting of 20 million RLUSD on September 4 and 16 million RLUSD the day before.
RLUSD’s issuance and burning reflect institutional demand, with tokens being destroyed when customers redeem their holdings. Such activity is a regular occurrence among asset-backed stablecoins and does not typically indicate negative sentiment toward the product.
RLUSD market capitalization sees rapid growth
Despite the burn activity, RLUSD’s circulating supply remains robust within the stablecoin market. On September 10, CoinGecko reported RLUSD with a market capitalization of about $2.42 billion. For context, this represents a significant increase from the approximately $1.76 billion reported on August 18.
If this expansion continues, RLUSD could soon overtake other major stablecoins such as PayPal USD (PYUSD) in terms of total market capitalization.

Ripple’s strategic expansion and institutional partnerships
RLUSD has attracted attention for its growing number of institutional use cases. In August, Ripple supported the development of an institutional credit fund in partnership with Clearpool and Cicada Partners. This initiative is designed to function on the XRP Ledger.
Ripple, a US-based fintech company, operates RLUSD as a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar and issues the asset on various blockchains to facilitate digital finance, payments, and lending for institutional clients.
The company aims to position RLUSD not only as a payment infrastructure but also for tokenization, lending, and collateral management across institutional markets.
RLUSD burn and mint activity reflects institutional demand, as tokens are issued and redeemed based on client needs, with destroyed tokens representing redemptions rather than negative market sentiment.
Mini dictionary: Clearpool and Cicada Partners, institutional finance projects focused on blockchain-based credit and lending solutions, work alongside Ripple to expand RLUSD’s integration into digital asset markets.
