Chainlink Connects Banks and U.S. Macroeconomic Data to Blockchain Infrastructure
Chainlink agreed to work with one of the largest providers of payment services for SWIFT. At the same time, the U.S. Department of Commerce began using Chainlink’s infrastructure to bring key government macroeconomic indicators on-chain.
Bottomline is one of the 3 largest providers of SWIFT services and serves more than 600 banks. More than $16 trillion in payments flows through the company’s platforms annually.
Under the new partnership, Bottomline’s infrastructure will be integrated with Chainlink’s technology to support cross-chain and cross-border transactions. Banks won’t have to abandon the familiar ISO 20022 standard. Financial institutions will be able to continue using their existing data exchange format and gain access to blockchain payment infrastructure through a single connection.
The integration will rely on 2 Chainlink components:
- Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), a protocol for securely transferring tokenized assets and data between different blockchain networks.
- Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE), an environment that coordinates the entire payment process and interactions between traditional systems and blockchains.
Chainlink’s solutions will serve as a technology layer between traditional banking systems and different blockchain networks. This will allow Bottomline to connect banks to public and private distributed ledgers through a single infrastructure while maintaining compatibility with existing banking systems.
The U.S. Department of Commerce began using the company’s solutions to publish official macroeconomic data in a blockchain environment. The data covers 3 indicators:
- U.S. real gross domestic product;
- the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index;
- real final sales to private domestic purchasers.
As a result, blockchain applications can access official government economic data directly through blockchain infrastructure. This information can be used, among other things, in financial applications and automated contracts whose operation depends on macroeconomic indicators.
The U.S. Department of Commerce announced plans to bring key macroeconomic data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) into the blockchain ecosystem in partnership with Chainlink and Pyth Network in late August 2025. Later, in January 2026, Chainlink provided round-the-clock access to U.S. stock market data on-chain.
