SK Hynix CEO: Memory chip shortage will persist until 2030

According to Odaily, SK Hynix CEO Kwak Noh-Jung stated that the global memory chip shortage is expected to persist until the end of 2030, and the risk of oversupply is very low, because in the AI era, memory chips are no longer “merely standardized commodities.” Although the market is concerned about an AI investment bubble, he said there are “no signs” of oversupply risk or a potential downturn cycle for memory chips, as demand from AI customers remains strong.

If “we pass the AI peak, or another downturn cycle emerges in the future, challenges may arise. But I believe the next downturn cycle will be different from the prolonged slumps we have seen over the past decades. Even if a downturn cycle does occur, I think it will not be a sharp decline, but rather a slow decrease in demand, or possibly even stabilization.” (Golden Ten Data)
