Shares of Boston Scientific were down more than 4% in morning trading after the company said it had been hit with a cyberattack.
The Marlborough, Mass., company on Wednesday said the hack is hampering its ability to fill orders. Boston Scientific, which focuses on medical technology, said it doesn't yet know the full scope and nature of the breach, including its operational and financial impacts.
It is working with cybersecurity experts to assess and contain the threat and to restore affected functions and systems access, but the company noted that it doesn't yet have a timeline for a full restoration.
The Boston Scientific breach comes amid an increase in hacking activity worldwide that has frequently targeted health-care companies. Organizations faced an average 2,336 cyberattacks a week in July, according to a recent report from cyber-threat intelligence provider Check Point Research, up nearly 14% since May.
