US crude oil opened about $2 higher, hitting a four-day high of $85.54 per barrel, up approximately 2.65%, as the US launched strikes on southern Iranian islands over the weekend.

WTI crude oil opened nearly 2% higher on Monday at $84.29 per barrel; Brent crude oil opened up 1.7% at $89.43 per barrel. According to reports, the US military launched an attack on islands in southern Iran in the early hours of today Beijing time, and Iran retaliated by striking a US military base.

Spot gold opened more than $20 lower, hitting a one-and-a-half-week low of $4,431.52 per ounce, down about 0.5%.

Spot gold has just surpassed the $4,440.00/ounce mark, currently quoted at $4,440.80/ounce, down 0.30% on the day; COMEX gold futures main contract is now quoted at $4,491.40/ounce, down 0.85% on the day.
