Up to 100%! The White House imposes tariffs on imported drones and their components; drone-related concept stocks surge in response.

According to Jinse Finance, Donald Trump, President of the United States, stated on Thursday that the US will impose tariffs on imported drones and their components, with most of these tariffs taking effect in 21 days. Trump said this measure is necessary to reduce US dependence on foreign supply sources.

According to a proclamation signed by Trump on Thursday, the US will impose ad valorem tariffs ranging from 10% to 100% on imported drones and components under the pretext of addressing national security threats. The proclamation stipulates that ad valorem tariffs of 100% will be imposed on drones of specific highly sensitive sizes or features, as well as on docking stations and certain key components for such drones. This category includes drones with a maximum take-off weight exceeding 25 kilograms and drones equipped with thermal imaging capabilities. In addition, an ad valorem tariff of 25% will be imposed on certain smaller drones and other drone components that do not have specific features.

The proclamation also stipulates a 15% ad valorem tariff on drones and components originating from the European Union, Japan, Liechtenstein, South Korea, and Switzerland. In addition, drones from the United Kingdom will be subject to a 10% ad valorem tariff, provided that their hardware, software, and technology are essentially sourced from the above countries and regions, as well as the US. The proclamation states that these tariffs will take effect 21 days after the signing date. For drone components that are not highly sensitive, the tariffs will take effect 180 days after the signing date.

Affected by this news, US drone concept stocks rose after hours. As of press time, Unusual Machines (UMAC.US) was up nearly 7%, Red Cat Holdings (RCAT.US) was up over 3%, Ondas (ONDS.US) was up nearly 2%, and AeroVironment (AVAV.US) was up over 1%.
