Lockheed Martin, Verizon, and partners showcase 5G-based drone detection technology

Glonghui, August 12th｜Lockheed Martin, Verizon Communications, Nvidia, Keysight Technologies, ODC, and Astris AI have announced that they have demonstrated an AI-driven system leveraging existing 5G networks, capable of detecting, tracking, and monitoring unmanned aerial systems. The NetSense system integrates Verizon’s 5G spectrum, ODC’s AI-native RAN software, Nvidia’s AI Aerial platform, and Keysight’s RF simulation technology, along with Lockheed Martin’s drone detection and tracking capabilities. The system can provide real-time drone detection and alert functions for critical infrastructure, large events, utilities, schools, hospitals, and airports, without requiring changes to the existing cellular radio deployment. Pilot deployments are scheduled for the second half of 2026 and early 2027, with commercial services targeted for launch in 2027.
