(1) Nomura Securities has raised its year-end target for the TOPIX from 4,200 points to 4,400 points, mainly due to product price increases, sales growth, and a weaker yen boosting corporate earnings per share (EPS) expectations. (2) The institution has also raised its forecast for the EPS year-on-year growth rate of TOPIX constituent stocks in fiscal 2026 from 13.4% to 19.2%. About half of this profit margin improvement comes from temporary factors such as exchange rate effects and tariff rebates, while the other half comes from price increases and sales growth (which are more sustainable). (3) At the same time, the year-end target for the Nikkei 225 Index has been raised from 68,000 points to 70,000 points. Supported by continued corporate buybacks, individual investors, and overseas capital inflows, the market's supply and demand structure remains tight, and Nomura maintains a bullish outlook on the Japanese stock market.
