STOXX FLATLINES AS ENERGY STOCKS RISE, TRAVEL DOWN
Europe's STOXX 600 .STOXX was little changed on Tuesday, with gains in energy and tech offsetting weakness across travel and construction, as oil prices rose for a fourth straight day.
Brent crude briefly climbed above $89 a barrel after talks aimed at securing a peace deal in the Middle East hit an impasse, lifting a basket of oil and gas stocks .SXEP 1.3%. Equinor EQNR.OL, Eni ENI.MI, BP BP.L, TotalEnergies TTEF.PA and Repsol REP.MC rose between 1.5% and 2%.
The STOXX hovered just below record highs reached earlier this month as investors also awaited U.S. inflation data this week for clues on the outlook for Federal Reserve monetary policy. Travel and leisure .SXTP led decliners. InterContinental Hotels IHG.L fell 2% as conflict in the Middle East weighed on regional demand, though higher-end travel remained resilient and was further supported by the World Cup.
