Italy - Factors to watch on August 6

The following factors could affect Italian markets on Thursday.

ECONOMY, DEBT

Italian Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said on Wednesday he wanted to oversee Rome's exit from a European Union excessive deficit procedure (EDP) before the end of the government's term of office next year.

Istat releases June industrial production data (0800 GMT).

COMPANIES

MONTE DEI PASCHI BMPS.MI, INTESA SANPAOLO ISP.MI

Italy will handle its residual 4.9% stake in the Tuscan lender in a way that does not interfere with M&A moves affecting the bailed-out lender, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti told reporters on Wednesday.

Rome will keep its shareholding at least until the end of Intesa Sanpaolo's ISP.MI unsolicited €30.6 billion ($35.34 billion) cash-and-share bid for MPS, a source familiar with Giorgetti's thinking on the matter said.

Italy's fifth-largest bank on Thursday unveiled upgraded targets through 2028, forecasting net profit of around €2.7 billion as the lender seeks to capitalise on the integration of Banca Popolare di Sondrio and expand higher-fee businesses.

The bank has submitted a non-binding expression of interest to BFF Bank BFF.MI aimed at acquiring the businesses related to its payments and depositary bank.

BANCO BPM BAMI.MI

Italy's fourth-largest bank strengthened its 2026 profit outlook on Wednesday and said it would consider a tie-up with the Italian unit of Credit Agricole CAGR.PA, after abandoning plans for a deal with Monte dei Paschi di Siena.

The Tuscan lender has replied to market watchdog Consob, which had asked for details on the failed merger discussions with Banco BPM, saying the two banks only had an exchange of information via advisors, Il Sole 24 Ore reported on Thursday. In its response, MPS did not mention alternative options, even if press reports have suggested it was considering a takeover on Banco, Il Sole added.

Germany's Commerzbank CBKG.DE, nearing a possible takeover by the Italian lender, said on Thursday that net profit rose 94% in the second quarter, beating analysts' expectations.

INTERPUMP ITPG.MI

Shares in the high-pressure pump maker rose as much as 5.5% on Wednesday after it reported a 6.6% increase in second-quarter net profit and said it expected its full-year revenue to be at the upper end of guidance.

PIRELLI PIRC.MI

The tyremaker said on Wednesday it signed an agreement with Italy's Abet High Tech Solutions to jointly develop technologies aimed at the creation of remote-controlled electric ground vehicles for rescues on land.

(*) Marco Tronchetti Provera, the Italian businessman who has led the Milan-based group since 1992, plans to increase his stake to 29.9% from the current 26.56% through a €160 million capital raise for his vehicle Camfin, Italian newspaper MF reported on Thursday.

German media group Prosiebensat.1 PSMGn.DE, controlled by Italy's MFE, on Thursday reported second quarter core profit above expectations, driven by a significant decline in costs.

The Italian steel pipe maker reported lower second-quarter earnings late on Wednesday, citing higher costs and delayed shipments to customers in the Middle East due to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.

The financial services firm said late on Wednesday its Q2 gross revenue rose 30% year-on-year to €181 million. H1 gross revenue increased at €302 million, up 7% year-on-year.

TREVI TFI.MI

(*) The construction and engineering group said on Thursday its H1 net profit stood at €7.2 million and total revenue at €270.9 million. The company confirmed its 2026 guidance.
