As Amazon (AMZN.US) stock hit a record high on Monday, Bezos sold nearly $350 millions worth of Amazon shares, marking his first sale of the company's stock this year.

Zhihu Finance APP noted that Jeff Bezos sold nearly $350 million worth of Amazon (AMZN.US) stock on Monday, when Amazon’s share price hit a new all-time high. This marks his first sale of company shares this year.

The transaction was disclosed in a Form 4 regulatory filing published after the US stock market closed on Wednesday. Two days earlier, another filing showed the billionaire had indicated plans to sell up to 15 million Amazon shares, valued at more than $4 billion, with this sale representing just a small portion of that planned amount.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, as the e-commerce retailer’s share price has climbed 18% this year, Bezos’s wealth has increased by $38.7 billion to $292 billion in 2024. After reporting strong cloud computing revenue last week, Amazon recently became the fifth company with a market value exceeding $3 trillion.

Even after this sale, Bezos remains far ahead as Amazon’s largest shareholder, holding 8.16% of the company’s shares.

At age 62, Bezos has accelerated the pace at which he sells Amazon shares in recent years. Since 2020 alone, he has sold more than $38 billion of stock. By comparison, from Amazon’s first public offering in 1997 until 2020, he sold less than $10 billion worth of shares in total. In just nine trading days in 2024, he sold over $8.5 billion worth of stock.

According to regulatory filings, since the start of 2025, he has also donated Amazon shares currently worth more than $1 billion to nonprofit organizations.

The billionaire’s rising expenditures have attracted attention in recent years, and the sharp increase in stock sales has taken place during this period. After relocating to Florida at the end of 2023, Bezos spent more than $230 million on real estate in the Miami area and around $500 million on a 417-foot superyacht.

Blue Origin, the aerospace company he founded in 2000, was previously entirely funded by Bezos but is now seeking outside investment for the first time, with a valuation reaching $130 billion.

AI's Next Big Winners Emerging? PIMCO Avoids U.S. Stock Giants, Makes Heavy Bets on Asian "Pick-and-Shovel" Companies

PIMCO fund manager Sharef believes that as capital expenditures in AI continue to shift towards data centers and infrastructure, Asian supply chain companies—with their lower valuations and stronger profit growth—stand to benefit more directly from the AI construction cycle compared to the highly valued and increasingly indebted US tech giants. As a result, he underweights most large US tech stocks and instead is heavily invested in "picks-and-shovels" companies such as Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and TSMC.
