Gold May Hover at Low $4,000 Range in 3Q Before Rising by End-Year -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/08/05 06:210621 GMT - Gold prices are likely to hover around the low $4,000-an-ounce range in 3Q before breaking out higher into the year-end or early next year towards $4,500-$5,000, say State Street Investment Management strategists in a note. They attribute the potential price gain to robust Chinese physical and emerging-markets central-bank demand. While monetary policy tightening remains a tangible risk this year, precious metals markets appear to have largely absorbed a moderate tightening bias, they say. July U.S. payrolls and inflation data will likely be key points for gold investors to monitor in August for Fed policy direction, they add. A higher interest-rate environment typically weighs on nonyielding assets like gold. Spot gold rises 2.3% to $4,169.82 a troy ounce. (megan.cheah@wsj.com)
