Artificial intelligence (AI) cloud computing company CoreWeave is attempting to enter the Asian market and will build its first data centers in the region to expand into this area where demand for computing power is rapidly growing.

According to Zhihui Finance APP, artificial intelligence (AI) cloud computing company CoreWeave (CRWV.US) is attempting to enter the Asian market, planning to build its first data centers in the region to expand in an area where demand for computing power is rapidly increasing.

CoreWeave stated in a release that it plans to build three new data centers in Indonesia with a total capacity of 360 megawatts. These data centers will serve AI labs, startups, and large enterprise clients in Southeast Asia. The company said the data centers are expected to begin operations in 2028, adding that it will invest several billion dollars in the project, though specific investment figures were not disclosed.

Indonesia is gradually becoming an important hub for AI infrastructure development, driven by rapid growth in cloud computing adoption, strengthening data localization regulations, and large-scale investments from American tech giants such as Amazon (AMZN.US) and Microsoft (MSFT.US), which have invested billions of dollars in related infrastructure.

According to data from Research and Markets, the Indonesia data center market is expected to more than double, reaching $6.08 billion by 2031. In 2021, Amazon pledged to invest $500 million in AI and cloud infrastructure in Indonesia; Microsoft plans to invest $170 million by 2028. These investments are expected to create tens of thousands of jobs and further strengthen Indonesia's position in the regional digital economy.

CoreWeave noted that the company will assemble a local team in Indonesia to operate the new data centers, which will further promote the development of Indonesia’s domestic data center industry.

CoreWeave currently operates 49 data centers in North America and Europe, serving clients including OpenAI, Meta Platforms (META.US), and Microsoft. The company said its current power capacity exceeds 1 gigawatt, with an additional 3.5 gigawatts contracted. CoreWeave is working to expand the scale of its data centers to meet market demand for greater access to NVIDIA (NVDA.US) AI chips, and is also selling more profitable software and services to clients.

It is reported that CoreWeave’s AI computing capacity is nearly sold out for this year. The company is rapidly increasing capital investment and accelerating the construction and launch of new data centers through financing solutions. At the same time, it is seeking to broaden its customer base beyond traditional tech enterprise clients.
