NEAR Protocol launches version 2.13, deploying NIST-certified quantum-resistant signature scheme on mainnet
Foresight News reports that NEAR Protocol has completed the upgrade to mainnet version 2.13, introducing the FIPS-204 (ML-DSA) post-quantum signature scheme certified by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This makes NEAR Protocol one of the first L1 blockchains to deploy a quantum-resistant signature scheme in a mainnet production environment. With this upgrade, accounts can rotate keys to post-quantum algorithms to guard against future quantum computer attacks on existing signature methods.
In addition, version 2.13 simultaneously launches the Dynamic Resharding feature, enabling the network to automatically split and scale out a shard when it reaches a preset state size threshold—without manual intervention or protocol voting. The splitting process completes in about 1.5 epochs, and both NEAR Intents and near.com can automatically scale according to demand. NEAR co-founder Illia Polosukhin stated that this upgrade provides scalable and quantum-secure on-chain infrastructure for the Agent economy.
